Straight Outta Compton, the popular biographical film about the rap group, N.W.A., remains the number one movie for the third weekend in a row, earning an estimated $13.2M in domestic ticket sales, barely beating out Alex Kendrick’s War Room, which earned an estimated $11M.
War Room, Sony’s faith-based film, according to an article published by BoxOfficeMojo.com, nearly beat out Straight Outta Compton for #1 based on reports published last Friday on their website, but at the same time, the movie was so under viewed that it didn’t receive a Cinemascore.
Straight Outta Compton‘s continues to hold onto #1, even after a 50% drop from last weekend’s results. BoxOfficeMojo.com, “the biopic made $4,201 per screen and has a domestic cume of $134.1M.”
Falling far behind Compton, We Are Your Friends failed to meet expectations, grossing approximately $1.8M, marking another disappointing opening for Warner Brothers following the recent release of The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation holds the #3 spot with an estimated $8.3M in domestically revenue, barely pulling ahead of Owen Wilson’s No Escape, which earned $8.28M.
Sinister 2 ended the weekend at #5 dropping 56% from last week for a $4.65M cumulative estimate.
American Ultra dropped 49% for a $2.8M weekend and the #12 spot at the box office, which is disappointing due to fact that the movie has been out for only two weeks.
Hitman 47 dropped 51% in its second weekend, making $3.9M.
Box Office income is expected to be rather slow in the upcoming week.
