When the seasons change, new trends come along with them. Here at LNE, many people are participating in these different winter styles whether it’s clothing, hair, or even the way someone speaks.
As sweater weather comes along, shorts and tank tops are the first to be packed away. A freshman here at LNE, Rebecca Kerns says, “The weather is very jumpy in Lincoln, but a lot of kids will wear ripped jeans when it’s only 20º outside.” For many, changing the way you dress is difficult for different reasons, whether it’s just not your style, you want to be “different” or “too many people are already involved”, students have trouble adjusting.
Others who do like to participate in the current trends seem to be very familiar with certain brands such as PINK and NIKE. Joggers, leggings, ugly sweaters, brand socks, and ugg boots are some popular items purchased by teens from these brands. Emily Fountain, who is also a freshman here at LNE participates in many of these, but she also likes to be unique. “There are popular people who will always judge, and that’s why you just have to be unique.” Many freshman agreed with this statement, but what does it mean to be “popular”?
A trend can spread through many different ways, and one of those ways is for someone to be influenced. Kerns states, “To be popular means you influence a lot more people, and the clothing someone wears is one of those things. The more people who are influenced, the bigger the trend.” Although, that is not the only way it can spread. The internet is a huge worldwide way to find or get your style out there.
