Football season is not as far away as you think. Recruiting is already happening for Coach Mike Riley and the Huskers. February 3 was national signing day, and the Huskers secured a commitment from Lamar Jackson, a four star recruit
Jackson is currently a senior in Elk Grove, California, who is enrolled at Franklin High School. He plays Defensive Back and has been ranked top five of the nation throughout the season.
Jackson is a nation wide four-star prospect, according to the 247 Composite. He’s also the highest-rated prospect from California. According to Omaha.com, he is the highest ranked recruit NU has signed since at least 2002, as far back as the recruiting rankings go.
This process did not just happen overnight. Coach Riley and his team have been after Jackson since March of 2015 when they first extended an offer to him. Jackson’s first campus visit was November 7 2015, the game against Michigan State when the Huskers upset the team who was at the time ranked 9th in the nation.
Ever since then, Nebraska has been at the top of his list Jackson explained in an interview with 24/7 Sports, a branch off of CBS News. There were over 20 division one colleges looking at Jackson, including, Michigan, Arizona State, Oregon, and UCLA. The only school he visited other than Nebraska was Michigan.
As a freshman, there is no limit to what Jackson will be able to reach in his 4 years at the University of Nebraska, but there is no doubt the Huskers will welcome him with open arms.
