A snowstorm in Lincoln Nebraska lasted from Monday evening to Wednesday morning and LPS was canceled for both Tuesday and Wednesday. LNE students got those snow days that many were hoping for. Some students spent their time studying and catching up on homework. Yet others slept in late, spent time with family, watched TV or movies, etc.
The amount of snow was expected to range between 6-10 inches with 10-15 mph winds, but Thursday we saw the sun coming back with temperatures up in the higher 20s to lower 30s, according to 1011 weather report on February 4th.
A huge concern for teens is having to shovel all that snow every winter. By the time the snow plows went through Clinton neighborhood you could see that most people had already finished shoveling the snow, but because the plows pushed all the snow to the side it blocked driveways and even more snow got pushed onto the sidewalks. For many this was very frustrating, “The ice on our driveway was rock hard. My two kids went outside to pound it with hammers.” says Tyra Tate who lives in the Clinton neighborhood.
Although, LPS try to notify families about a snow day by 10pm or earlier, for the second snow day parents and guardians were not informed until after 5am. Many students and parents were frustrated that they were not notified earlier, but LPS met its mark for they are not allowed to call after 6am.
