Having a sibling can be a blessing as well as a curse, but National Siblings Day is a time to celebrate them either way. Although, this holiday is not yet recognized by everyone like Mother’s and Father’s Day, the Siblings Day Foundation has been working on changing this.
Those who don’t have siblings either spent their Sunday at home or with friends. Jayda Simonson who is a freshman here at LNE says, “Having a best friend can be like having a close sibling, but any day is a good day to celebrate them.”
Many other LNE students enjoyed this holiday with their brothers and sisters, but some were not aware of it. Some say they discovered this obscure holiday from apps like Snapchat and Instagram. Snapchat had featured filters for the day that many LNE students used and posted on their stories. Some Celebrities like Julia Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Kim Kardashian were in the National Siblings Day article written by William Cannon. All three had featured quotes about their siblings.
The family size has changed over the past few decades and Americans are having less children so even more kids do not have siblings. Around 48% of Americans say two children is an ideal number to have according to an article written by George Gao from the Pew Research Center.
Although some say their siblings are their mortal enemies or have an unconventional relationship with one another, they all share history, secrets, and memories. An LNE freshman, Dania Gomez says, “My siblings are very unique; they may get on my nerves, but there is never a dull moment.”
