Some things are harder to achieve than others, but there is always something that could assist you in attaining it. The one thing that we would never suspect to help with this is school spirit, a positive attitude that supports an educational institution. According to National Federation of State High School Associations (nfhs.org) kids with school spirit and have a positive attitude are shown do better academically. They are more engaged in social matters. When you have an undeniable state of my mind you will never get knocked down; you are continuously building yourself up. So when you are putting out that positive attitude to others, they tend to pick up on the good habit.
When you don’t care about the outcome of one thing, that shows you don’t have the courtesy to care about something else. When you aren’t involved in an activity like sports, or something else that is time consuming you tend you be worse at school work says nfhs.org. It wouldn’t make sense if a college student went to UNL and didn’t want to go to at least one Nebraska football game. When you go to a school, you don’t just go for the education, and we all know that statement is true. Whether you are going to see your friends or to just simply go somewhere for the day, you always hear people asking, “Are you going to the game tonight?”. When you show up to a game you are already showing spirit and support for your school.
Here at Lincoln Northeast High School we pursue school spirit, especially on homecoming week. We have a different theme for everyday that leads us up to homecoming. This year’s 2016 dress up week consisted of crayon day for Monday, tacky tourist day for Tuesday, twin day for Wednesday, black and white day for Thursday, and patriot day for Friday. Seniors are in their final year of high school and they are ready to be sent off to college where they can show their school spirit towards their new school. Seniors are probably the most comfortable class out of the high school, that shows spirit because they have been doing it longer than everyone else. So practice does make perfect. The best thing about school spirit is that everyone comes together to support the school as a whole. This includes not just students but moms and dads, grandparents, even aunts and uncles. This staff doesn’t come just because they are here to keep kids in check. They are here to watch their football, volleyball, and track stars do what they love to do. Some people have school spirit when they know that they are most likely going to win. But is competitive school spirit still healthy? In a survey, most high school students said that it is a really nice way to decompress from all of the stress and homework. But in the end, school spirit is totally worth all of it.
