There are so many reasons why commercials are a huge disadvantage. Many people have to spend extra money just to make sure that they can watch their tv shows, commercial free. Commercials do have positive aspects, but we don’t think about the negatives.
TV commercials do have a tendency of being pretty lengthy. On the year of 2009 and 2013, the average commercial time increased. According to Tv week, a website about the average commercial times, throughout the years say, “Broadcast networks averaged 13 minutes and 25 seconds of commercial time per hour in 2009, which grew to 14 minutes and 15 seconds in 2013, the story reports.” On Hulu (a video streaming service), people have to pay extra to have commercial free tv shows and movies. According to Cnet, a website that shares information about Hulu says, “The company said a new commercial-free tier for $12 month will join its standard subscription.” Some people choose to save money by watching Hulu, with the commercials for eight dollars a month, even though they’d like to enjoy Hulu without commercials.
People don’t realize how tv advertising is a waste of money. According to Peter Sandeen, a website that talk about the disadvantages of commercials say, “During the commercial breaks people run off to the refrigerator or the toilet. And those who stay at their couch don’t want to see the commercials. So, they’re not really paying attention.” The people who make commercials have to spend a lot of money, to make sure that what their broadcasting is persuasive enough to make a person want to know more about the item. According to Chron, a website about TV advertising says, “TV spot can cost up to $300,000, well beyond the reach of smaller businesses. Producing a spot with a local agency to air on local television is considerably cheaper, but it can still run into thousands of dollars.”
At times, people do buy what they see on tv, but when it gets ordered in, it’s the opposite of what they thought about it. According to Article Library, a website about 5 disadvantages of TV commercials, say, “They come to realise later that the information given in the advertisement was something else whereas the actual product was quite different from it. Thus, people lose confidence in advertising because of wrong presentation. In this reference it is said that advertising confuses rather than helps.” Commercials do tend to be pretty persuasive, but in reality people do feel like what they have seen on tv isn’t worth what they purchased from it.
