Walking through the hallways or walking down the street, everyone sees a strange fashion trend almost daily. Whether it be a hair style, article of clothing, or accessory, fashion trends come and go, and sometimes come back again. There are some fashion trends; however, that should be written in the history books and kept their forever.
1. Eye Tattoos
Some people wish their eye color was different from what they were born with. Many people use colored contact to change their eye color or to express themselves. Many people also have tattoos to do the same. But a tattoo on an eye? Some people are starting a new trend in which they tattoo the sclera, or the white part, of their eye. However, the trend was first appeared in 150 AD as an attempt to mask the leukomatous opacities of the eye. Now it is common in prison or used by others as a fashion statement.
2. Bagel Heads
A trend running wild in Japan is known as the bagel head. The procedure was brought to Japan in 2007, and it became popular in 2014. Keroppy Maeda revived the trend in Japan after it first was done by pioneer Jerome Abramovitch in Canada. The bagel head is a procedure in which a distortion of the forehead is created. It is done by a saline drop injected into the forehead to resemble a bagel or doughnut. However, the design is temporary and last roughly 6 to 24 hours.
3. Glitter Roots
People love to sparkle and standout. Some even go as far as putting glitter on their roots to do this. Some people utilize this trend for parties, events, and holidays. The glitter adds a pop to any outfit. However, anyone who has used glitter knows it can be a mess and stay unwanted for days. The trend can become a hard to control quickly. Nevertheless, if all else fails, the glitter can be used to cover up overgrown roots.
4. Body Suits
Body Suits are a strange trend that do not seem to have much purpose. A body suit is basically an adult onesie. They come in all shapes, sizes and colors. They can even be bought in mesh, which seems to make even less sense. Some people choose to wear pants over them, while others not so much. Many use it as a sort of tucked in shirt with high waisted jeans or shorts. Popular in the 90s, the trend is coming back, and many women participate in it.
5. Anything over a T-shirt
Popular among parents dressing their elementary students, the trend of wearing a T-shirt under articles of clothing is coming back. Many people wear spaghetti straps over a white T-shirt, whether it be a dress or tank top. Some companies now even make white shirts permanently under articles of other clothing to buy together in a set.
6. Overly Distressed Jeans
Many people, specifically older generations, do not understand the point of genes with holes already in them. However, even the people in younger generations can admit the trend can go too far. Some jeans are so far ripped that they might as well not be wearing pants at all. The rips extend from mid thigh to ankle. This trend includes everything from the jeans with partially covered holes to complete holes up and down the leg. Anyone have some patches?
7. Socks and Sandals
Socks and Sandals. Originally started by grandparents outside on a summer day, many teens and young adults are now wearing socks and sandals daily. Many people practice this trend after sports practices and games with nike sliders. Others wear fuzzy socks and Birkenstocks on their “bum days” in the winter. The trend hit its peak in 2010 in the spring and summer of that year.
8. Sagging
Pants belong on the waist of the person wearing the pants. However, some people do not understand this concept. Practiced mainly among males, the trend consists of wearing pants baggy and lower than normal standard practices. It was popularized in the 1990s by skaters and hip-hop artists. Many young adults see it as a symbol of freedom and rejection from mainstream society. Some guys even wear basketball shorts under their sagged pants. Other people simply allow their underwear to be shown to the public.
9. Cat Ears
A popular, simple costume, the cat ears work perfectly for Halloween. However, they seem strange for daily wear. Are they trying to be a cat? Do they think they are a cat? Do they actually believe it is a cute trend? The trend became popular in 2012 among young adult females. Even Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande were spotted wearing a cat ear headband.
10. Crocs
Invented in 2002, Crocs started to hit the shelfs. In 2006, sales tripled for Crocs. Everyone from elementary students to middle aged moms were wearing them. For those who want more personal crocs, decorations can be placed into the shoes. They came in a variety of colors and were easy to wear on the go – strap on or strapless. However, the trend quickly died. Or did it? Recently the trend has come back among teens and young adults. Teams have even bought them as shoes to wear to their games with their uniforms.
