Five Star Finesse was created when four friends from LNE wanted to start their own rap group. Early March of 2015 they came up with their name, figured out what they were going to rap about, and started recording by themselves. No studio, no professional equipment or guidance helped them through their struggles, just the will and motivation to produce music with their names on it.
Geigh Zollicoffer, Nate Sampson, Alonga Chol and John Eggerss gained much attention by the students of LNE when their first track was released just six months ago. “Unknown” by their group, Five Star Finesse, was what everybody was talking about around April 2015. Their second song “All I Know” featuring “Yung Chino,” dropped just one month after their first.
“All I Know” was a very popular subject among students as well. Unfortunately, it didn’t get the same type of attention “Unknown,” received. Five Star Finesse was criticized by the students of Northeast after it’s release. Zollicoffer, or “GZ the Divine” said “I wish I had more experience before releasing,” he also stated his skills of making music have greatly improved since then.
“I’ve gotten a lot better over the summer; I listened to all sorts of music like rap, R&B, and hip hop and learned different techniques to make the music pop.” Zollicoffer expects his next song to be released within a couple of weeks. “Hallelujah” is expected to be very popular and much better than their first two tracks. Zollicoffer states that it’s something he would “bump” to on the daily.
New equipment and new knowledge are the potential game changers for this next song. With new equipment Five Star Finesse will be able to make better sounding music with smoother sounding lyrics. The wisdom Zollicoffer gained over the summer will show through in his upcoming songs.
