If all seniors have one thing in common, it’s that they have said this same quote at least once- “I hate freshmen.” Seniors and freshmen have had an ongoing feud since the beginning of high school. This can be seen anywhere from popular movies like Dazed and Confused to the hallways of any high school. Seniors act this way because they are better informed and more mature, or so they think.
When asked what he/she thinks of the freshman class, a typical senior says either they are too immature, too loud, too annoying, etc. Being in high school myself, I see plenty of immature, loud, and annoying seniors on a day to day basis. Then again, I see plenty of well mannered and polite seniors. Is it possible that there are mature and courteous freshmen out there?
After conducting a short survey on the 2016 and 2019 graduating classes here at LNE, I found some results that were not expected. One thing I found was that the number of students in the freshmen class and the senior class that took the survey seriously, was quite close. When asked what they thought of the freshmen class, most seniors answered along the lines of immature, energetic, and annoying. Surprisingly the freshmen agreed with the seniors. They agree that they are immature and/or annoying. When freshmen were asked the same question about the senior class most said something positive like helpful, respectful, and fun while the seniors said the opposite. Most answers from the seniors about the seniors were just like the ones answered about the freshmen. A lot said their senior class was annoying, immature and loud.
This information is reason to believe that seniors are just looking for things to complain about. This may be because they’re simply ready to graduate. Since freshman are new to high school, they may not be as tired or stressed out about school in the way seniors typically are. For that reason, freshmen see high school as something new and adventurous while the seniors see it as dull and unappealing. Since the 2016 class, for the most part, had nothing nice to say about anyone, I believe that Senioritis is the cause of the bitterness they show not only toward the freshmen class, but their own class as well.
