No Shave November is an organization that encourages people to donate money they’d use to shave to the American Cancer Society. No Shave November isn’t just encouraging men not to shave their mustaches, but to motivate women to go without shaving their legs as well. No Shave November was founded on Facebook in 2009, but began a partnership with ACS last year.
Movember, which is also known as No Shave November involving the growing of mustaches, began in Australia in 2003 to raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancers according to the Movember Foundation. Movember is an annual event during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, depression in men, prostate cancer and other male cancers. The Movember Foundation is a nonprofit that raised nearly 21 million dollars in 2013. To participate in Movember, start with a fresh face at the beginning of the month, give up shaving and donate what you’d usually spend to the cancer research.
Movember and No Shave November are important because they give awareness to prostate and testicular cancer. An estimated 1,665,540 people were diagnosed with cancer in 2014.
