Friday, the United States Air Force has just released that the campaign against ISIL has led to a depletion in munition stockpiles.
According to the Air Force, more than 20,000 missiles and bombs have been fired off since the U.S. launched their campaign against the Islamic terror group 15 months ago.
Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Welsh stated to press officials, “The Air Force is expending munitions faster than we can replenish them… B-1s have dropped bombs in record numbers. F-15 Es are in the fight because they are able to employ a wide range of weapons and do so with great flexibility. We need the funding in place to ensure we’re prepared for the long fight… This is a critical need.”
Despite this decrease in ammunition, Republicans continue to criticize the Obama Administration for being pusillanimous against ISIL. Republican Presidential Candidate Marco Rubio, for example, is in favor of a more aggressive approach by sending special forces units to Iraq and Syria.
Welsh also commented that replenishing the stockpile could take up to four years to resupply and that the Air Force has requested additional funding for Hellfire missiles and weapon production.
