A lot of travelers fly into Nebraska for a visit, but one Hawaii born native made his visit last week sending the state into an uproar. President Barack Obama stopped by Baxter Arena in Omaha, Nebraska for a speech right after he gave his State of the Union Address the day before.
President Obama made sure to sum up what he said in his State of the Union Address while throwing in some jokes here and there. Barack talked about his plans for his last year as president, which included talk about education and health care earning a lot of applause from the crowd of about 11,000.
The speech wasn’t all serious. When Obama suggested a question, one woman shouted out, “four more years,” the President laughed returning with a funny response. “Oh, well I can’t do that because of the Constitution,’ Obama trailed on. ‘And I can’t do that because Michelle would kill me!” A young man behind Obama who was in the camera shot made sure to dab, a dance move trend, when the crowd applauded a remark made by the current president.
With the speech following the State of the Union Address, people tuned in to hear what Obama had to say and watched his every move. A few people caught Obama’s mix up and thought it was appalling. The president stuttered saying that the United States is “150-ish years old,” while the United States is actually turning 240 years old this year. Many were concerned that the president of the United States didn’t actually know how old the United States was.
Many people loved the president’s speech for his compliments to America’s strength. “When you hear people peddling this fiction about our enemies getting stronger, America getting weaker – when you hear folks say we can, you know, solve challenges just by looking meaner and talking tougher, or carpet bombing wherever we want, you know, that’s just hot air.” Obama ended the speech with a thank you to the American people and the American army. Obama added the last line to his speech – “America will remain the greatest country ever.”
