In March 2011, the Syrian Civil War is a devastating event that is still occurring today. The war sparked by protests; then it started to escalate.
There are about 6 million Syrian refugees and half are children. About 320,000 civilians have been killed since the Civil War began, and 1.5 million have been severely injured.
Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said the United States should accept 65,000 Syrian refugees to help alleviate the catastrophic crisis. “We cannot allow terrorists to intimidate us into abandoning our values and humanitarian obligations. Turning away orphans, applying a religious test, discriminating against Muslims, slamming the door on every single Syrian refugee—that’s just not who we are. We are better than that.”
Donald Trump thinks otherwise. Trump said in an interview that he thinks it’s dangerous if Syrian refugees enter the United States. It’s a path for terrorists to come in, and he doesn’t want to take that risk. “We cannot let them into this country, period, our country has tremendous problems. We can’t have another problem,” Trump said on CNN.
Democrat, Bernie Sanders said we will not turn our backs on Syrian refugees. Bernie is willing to bring these Syrian refugees to the United States. But his highest priority as of current is to destroy ISIS. “The United States must not turn its backs on refugees fleeing violence from places like Syria or Afghanistan,” Bernie said.
