An old but new college rivalry may be coming to light at the start of the 2016-2017 basketball season. The Nebraska Huskers and the Kansas Jayhawks are working to renew a classic basketball rivalry proceeding the Huskers joining the Big 10 conference. Both teams have agreed to play a home-and-home series at the beginning of the next season, where they will renew their rivalry at the historic Allen Fieldhouse. Matter of fact, no current Big 12 team has visited Pinnacle Bank Arena since Nebraska joined the Big 10 conference in 2012. Therefore, Kansas would be the first team from the current Big 12 conference to visit Pinnacle Bank Arena in the 2017-18 season.
The two teams have met a total of 242 times, with Kansas leading the all-time series 170-71, including the Jayhawks winning 17 straight against the Huskers. The Huskers’s last win against Kansas came in 2004, a 74-55 victory in Lincoln at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Likewise, Nebraska hasn’t defeated Kansas in Lawrence since 1999, where the Huskers won 64-59 against the number 24 ranked Jayhawks. This rivalry was historic years ago, and it will continue to be historic in the years to come.
