On December 2, 2015 there was a mass shooting in San Bernardino, California. Fourteen people were killed and twenty two people were severely injured. The shooter’s were then shot by the police. The FBI asked the Apple company to hack the shooter’s phone. Apple refuses to help the FBI acquire the information on the San Bernardino shooters phone.
Apple, an American multinational technology company, refuses to hack the San Bernardino shooter’s phone. The FBI asked the Apple company to make a backdoor to the San Bernardino shooter’s phone.
Apple thinks making a backdoor to the iPhone would be risky. They aren’t willing to take that risk because hackers and criminals could easily access private information. “But now the U.S. government has asked us for something we simply do not have, and something we consider too dangerous to create. They have asked us to build a backdoor to the iPhone,” Apple said. This case has been taken to court.
“I think that if Apple let the FBI access the shooter’s phone that’s definitely violating the fourth amendment, but it will definitely help everyone get to know the point of view of a terrorist and I think that could help a lot, but they don’t have any permission from Apple.” A ninth grader at Lincoln Northeast said.
