Lincoln Northeast has been entertaining people for years. The One Act play are more light and funny and take place towards the end of the year. There are two different One Act plays. The staff play, Madame Zena’s Seance, is about Madame Zena coming to a family home. She plans to perform a seance but a few mobsters have something else in mind. The student play this year will be Cracker Barrel Circus which is about a dishonest banker foreclosing mortgages.
Mr. Bruce Chapman an English teacher, and also the play director has been directing plays here at Northeast for 31 years. When Chapman first started here there was only a student One Act. Chapman found a play where a couple adopted an abandoned child. He decided to put the staff and students together. After his first year doing that, he decided to separate the two. As for the One Act plays, Chapman does not ask for auditions. Instead, he ask students that have performed in previous plays. With teachers, he asks the entire Northeast staff if they are interested in participating.
Mr. Thomas Shelly, another English teacher participated in the One Act play last year and will be the character Bobby in this year’s play as well. Bobby is the youngest character and is known to be quite the liar. Shelly’s favorite part of the staff One Act is joking with the other staff between scenes and getting to see the other staff members “let their hair down.” Samantha Russell is involved in the One Act plays as well. Russell’s character is Cindy who has a pet snake. Russell mentioned that her favorite part of the play is the fact that many of her friends are involved and they have a lot of fun. Ms. Pam Davis is the princess and has a sacred jewel stolen from her. Davis’ said her favorite thing about the Staff One Act is the chance to perform for students, other staff and the community. It is also fun to work on a project with other teachers. She also says Chapman is awesome. Kandis Griess is also participating with the Staff One Act. This is her eighth year performing with Chapman. Griess is Madame Zena and she arrives at a home to conduct a seance and is supposedly a psychic. Griess’ favorite thing about the Staff One Act is the interaction with the other staff members. “This provides me with a break from regular teaching aspect and allows me to have fun. I also enjoy seeing ‘students’ reactions to the play because it is out of character for us.”
The One Act plays will be April 21 to April 22 at 7:30 in black box.
