The Lincoln Northeast drama department is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the first play ever performed at Lincoln Northeast, Young April. Bruce Chapman and the actors in the play are hard at work rehearsing for the play and are very excited for performances to start. The actors practice after school everyday and practices are organized by scenes. This year the turnout for auditions was more than could be used in the play and many characters are double casted. This means that there are multiple actors playing the same character. A summary of the play, in Chapman’s words, is “Young April is about the McIntyre family, Professor and Mrs.McIntyre have two children. George, who is just coming back from his first year of college, and their daughter Terry who is in high school. And at the beginning of the play Terri and George start dating the wrong people to humorous and disastrous results. Then it takes the play for them to figure out who they should really be dating.” Junior Madison Klutts who plays the part of Mrs.Miller, the overbearing mother of the boy who is dating Terry. She says that she is really excited for the play to start because “you feel really good on stage, and you just go out there and the first night you think you’re going to be nervous, and you kind of are. But then once you get through the first night you’re kind of just cruising through, and you’re having the time of your life. And then the play is over and you’re like ‘no, don’t be over.’” Sophomore Michelle Nguyen shares the role of Vivian, a manipulative, cunning, selfish woman. She says she decided to audition for the play “because I really love theatre and acting in general, and it’s really fun to portray a character for an audience.” Chapman says that the greatest difficulty in putting on the play will be costumes and the fact that there are two casts to work with. Many of the actors said that the only hard part will be memorizing their lines if they have a lot, and remembering their ques. The play will be running from Tuesday October 11th through Saturday October 15th at 7:30 each night. Mr.Chapman says the audience should look forward to seeing this talented group of actors along with the drama, romance, and lots of comedy.
