Top-ranked Nebraska just ended its nonconference season and will begin the Big Ten Conference play with a 9-0 record. The Big Ten Conference play will begin today at Michigan, who is ranked 31st in the nation right now. After the National Championships last year and how they played in the nonconference season, many people are expecting a Nebraska win. However, it is still too early to tell which way it could go.
Nebraska lost their first set of their season opener against Florida, but after this they managed to hold on to a streak of 24 sets won. This streak was broken on Saturday when the Huskers lost the first set of their nonconference exit game against Creighton. It was the first game of the season that really gave them a run for the money, so it has made people wonder how this Big Ten Conference season will go. Ultimately the Huskers won and have been able to maintain their perfect record.
The player that is standing out the most heading into the Big Ten Conference season is Kadie Rolfzen. At the Creighton game she had 17 kills, 13 digs and nine blocks and was named the Ameritas Player Challenge MVP. She has been doing extremely well all season and is expected to keep doing well heading into Conference play. Two other players to look out for are Briana Holman and Justine Wong-Orantes, both of which made the all-tournament team.
Despite the small struggles Nebraska faced in the nonconference season, it should be a really great Big Ten Conference season. Hopefully with how they are playing so far, the ladies will be able to bring home another National Championship this season.
