With a world full of color, it’s not hard to believe each one has it’s own unique meaning and way of making people feel. The fact that humans can see only a fraction of all the colors in the world is almost sad. But with the limited sight humans still can see a large spectrum and give each color it’s own meaning.
Red is the most passionate color. Full of fiery and strong emotions. Red has the ability to make people feel strong emotions, whether it be anger or comfort. Red also is the first color in the rainbow, has the longest wavelength, making it the easiest to see, and is a warm color along with yellow and orange. Red is also a primary color, meaning it can not be made but can be used to make other colors, such as purple and orange.
Blue is another primary color, being interpreted as a calming color. Being a cool color along with purple and green, means it is associated with water, ice, and the sky. Blue has one of the shortest wavelengths. Blue is also seen as a “clean” color, used to sell cleaning products and other “clean” products. This color also has effects on people’s hunger, making them less hungry compared to other colors.
The final primary color is yellow. Yellow is one of the most attention grabbing colors, and often is associated with happiness, joy, and hope. While yellow is used to make people happy, it has been found that infants cry more in yellow rooms. This color can make you more attentive and can stimulate the nervous system.
Secondary colors are orange, green, and purple and result from mixing 2 primary colors. Mixing red and yellow makes orange, a secondary color. Orange like yellow, is used to promote happiness, and is highly attention grabbing. Unlike blue, which is the complementary color of orange, orange tends to make people hungry.
Complementary colors are two colors opposite from each other on the color wheel. Usually consisting of one primary color and one secondary number. One common pair of complementary colors is red and green.
Green is the mix of yellow and blue, often taken as a color of nature and commonly interpreted as a healing color. The color green can make people feel relaxed and help ease anxiety and depression. Green is also the color of greed and money.
Mixing red and blue gives you purple, one of the hardest colors to see and the most rare to find in nature. Purple has the shortest wavelength and is often the hardest to tell apart by shade. Due to its rarity in nature it is seen as a royal color. Purple is a highly creative color making it popular among artist of all kinds.
From red to green, colors take up a large part of our lives. Helping us tell apart poison from harmless. Steering us into buying different products and helping us relax and calm down. Every shade having their own unique meaning. So go out and explore the world of color.
