Lincoln Northeast’s fall musical will be Les Miserables, a story about the French Revolution. Practices have already started on this production and let’s just say, it’s going to be a good one. 

It stars a young man who helps start the revolution, but ends up falling in love with a young woman. The young woman is the adopted daughter of a known convict. This convict spends the entire time denying that he is the convict. In the end, it’s very dramatic and what you’d expect from a musical. 

I had the chance to sit down with one of the directors, Lauren Cook, for an interview. I asked her what her favorite part about being a director is, she said, “My favorite part is seeing that first rehearsal all the way up until opening night. Watching these kids learn more about their character and be their character is something amazing to watch.”

The school edition of Les Miserables is actually somewhat like the original. The only couple of things that are different are some of the songs and scenes are shorter than the original. Also, the order of the musical is different than the movie of Les Miserables. 

 When asked about these differences, Ms. Cook said, “Instead of having an actual orchestra pit, we’re using background tracks instead. The orchestrations may be easier than the original but it’s still a lot to take on and to learn within the few short months we have to rehearse.”

All in all, Northeast will produce an amazing musical. Showtimes are November 6th, 8th, and 9th at 7pm. There’s a matinee show Sunday the 10th at 3pm.
