As ACT season approaches, juniors at LNE are getting ready for one of the most important tests of their high school careers. The ACT is a standardized college entrance exam that tests students in English, math, reading, and science. Many colleges use ACT scores for admissions and scholarships, which makes the test an important step for students who plan to attend college.
Many top colleges of the country are using the ACT scores to help decide about admissions, scholarships and courses. A higher score can increase opportunities for a “bigger prize” of scholarships. This means students would get a chance to attend a higher level of college classes. Because of this, preparation is very important.
PreACT teacher, Jake Jolliffe, explained that even though some colleges are now test-optional, a strong ACT score can still improve a student’s college application. He said students should focus on managing their time and understanding how each section of the test works. Jolliffe also encouraged juniors to practice with ACT-style questions, take full-length practice tests, review their mistakes, and set clear score goals. He added that staying consistent with studying and getting enough rest before test day can help students perform their best.
Several juniors have already started preparing. Braydin Berry-Shaw said he has been reviewing his PreACT scores and practicing online, especially in the subjects where he needs the most improvement. He hopes to raise his math score by practicing algebra more and timing himself during practice tests. He gave out advice for Juniors to do practice on websites like Ontocollege.com to help you with basic practice rules.
Maddox Pesek said he has been studying vocabulary and taking practice quizzes to prepare. He is also working on improving his time management during each section. Pesek hopes to raise his overall composite score by at least two points through consistent practice each week. With preparation and determination, LNE juniors are working hard to achieve their best possible scores on the upcoming ACT.
