Lincoln, NE — Nebraska’s high school basketball season is coming close to an end, and many fans are starting to notice new talent across the courts. One rising player who has recently gained attention is Duoth Yiel, a forward for Lincoln Northeast High School. Yiel currently averages 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game, making him an important contributor to the team. His rise has been impressive, especially considering where he started just a year ago.
In 2024, Yiel played on the junior varsity team and received very limited playing time. Instead of giving up, he focused on training every day and improving his game. His hard work paid off as he earned a spot on varsity and became a key player this season.
Teammate Comments:
“Duoth’s presence and playstyle honestly helped the basketball team a lot,” Neeman said.
“The way he plays and practices brings a good vibe to the team.” Neeman also shared how close their relationship is off the court.
“Our connection goes deep from hanging out in and outside of school,” he said.
“Anytime he needs something, I’m there. It’s more than just a manager-player relationship.” Team Manager, Max Neeman spoke about Yiel’s impact on the team.
Another teammate, Quincy Montoya, also praised Yiel’s ability. “Duoth is our guy,” Montoya said. “His impact comes on both sides of the floor. He’s our main scorer and shot blocker.” Montoya and Yiel have known each other since fifth grade, which helps their chemistry on the court.
Yiel himself shared his perspective on the season and his role. He explained how he met teammate Mike at school and how their bond grew over time. Yiel described his playstyle as simple, saying he can get to any spot on the court when needed. One of his favorite memories was earning the team’s first win together.
Looking ahead, Yiel remains focused. “I’m looking forward to working harder and being able to help bring us to state,” he said.
