Feminism is a very controversial movement. That still didn’t stop Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s first-female creative designer, at her debut catwalk for Dior´s Spring 2017 fashion line. The designer made a bold statement by sending a model down the runway with a shirt that had ¨We Should All Be Feminists¨ written across it.
Ms. Chiuri, who has both a son and a daughter, said one of her tasks in taking on the Dior job was the ability to show the next generation that it had “the same opportunities,” no matter what gender.
The written definition of feminism is the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. Any word can have a rebuttal and people who disagree. Now there are people who just do not agree with feminism and there are people who do not consider themselves feminists because it focuses on one gender. The main argument is that feminism victimizes women and portrays men as horrible.
Many students here at LNE consider themselves as feminists, people who support equality. There are minimum students who do not support the movement and some students have no idea what feminism is.
One LNE sophomore stated that the most influencing woman in their life was Ms. Goforth saying, “Ms. Goforth because she is an amazing person who is open minded through anything and she has kept me from quitting what I love – writing!”
Shaleija Hunter stated, “No I am not a feminist because I believe women should have an equal part in society and politics, but I don’t believe that it will happen no matter who stands up for it.”
Senior Drake Fisher said, “Yes I am a feminist. I think guys that objectify women are disrespectful and immoral.”
Regardless of what anyone says, the final definition of feminism is equality. Grazia Chiuri is working very hard to change society and get equal representation of women in all culture.
