The Lighthouse and Northeast have partnered to make Rocket House. Rocket House is comparable to a study hall. It provides students with extra time to finish any work that needs to be done. The Rocket House staff provide tutors from UNL and Wesleyan. Rocket House is located in the school library which is open everyday three to five, Monday through Friday. Tuesdays it is open two to five due to PLC. Rocket House is a safe place for students to be where they can focus on their academics and spend time with friends. For the first hour of Rocket House, students focus on homework assignments. From four to five, students have activity time where they can spend the remainder of the time with their friends, watching movies, or playing games.
Amber Weyer, a staff member from Rocket House, shared that a student here from Northeast went home one night and shared his grades with his parents and came back the next day and said they were extremely proud of him. “It’s the little stuff like that that makes you know you’re doing something right.”
Diamond Bush, a sophomore here at Northeast states she was “involved in Rocket House because I thought it was a great opportunity to get extra help on my homework assignments.” Bush also mentioned that the tutors were very nice and helped her understand what the teachers did not explain.
For many students, Rocket House is not a choice. Many student athletes use it as an extra place to study. For students like Sophomore Suttan Alexander, Rocket House helped her get back on the court. Sophomore Carmen Ramos mentioned that Rocket House has helped get her grades up as well.
Many students have said Rocket House was a great help for them. The Rocket House Staff are always opened to help more students.
