If I had a dollar every time another teen complained about not being able to do anything in Lincoln, I’d be richer than Warren Buffett. Living in a relatively small city can get really boring, really fast. Of course there are a lot of fun activities to do, but they get repetitive, and eventually they aren’t fun. Big cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago attract people’s attention because they have a lot of cool tourist attractions and exciting places. At times it seems that there is nothing to do in Lincoln, possibly because of your mood, the weather, or even cravings. But believe it or not, there are a good handful of places to go.
One that I had never even thought of would be going to Champion’s Fun Center to ride the Go-Karts. I hadn’t been to Champions in a long time because I grew out of the arcade games and ticket-collecting. But riding the Go-Kart, whether is seems like it or not, is a fun activity for almost all ages (sorry small children). Instead of racing friends in video games, you can go out with friends and race each other on the track. A ticket for a full round on the race track is only $7.25 and an additional $2 for a double passenger go-kart. After racing your friends and family, you’ll be bummed that you have to leave.
Another exciting place to let out energy is Defy Gravity. Many people already know what this place is. But for those who don’t, Defy Gravity is an indoor trampoline park. It’s actually the first trampoline park in Nebraska with locations in Lincoln and Omaha. Not only does it have the option to bounce off trampoline walls, the park also includes a rock climbing wall, a laser maze, an arcade area, and many other fun, unique activities. Open Jump has a starting price of $7.99 for 30 minutes. Going to the trampoline park is a great way to exercise while having fun.
For a more chill vibe, there’s Crescent Moon in downtown Lincoln. Crescent Moon is a locally owned coffee shop that supports local musician and artists. This is an underground coffee shop, both figuratively and literally. They have a variety of coffee, tea, smoothies, crepes and panini sandwiches. This place often hold open mic nights, poetry slams, and performances from musicians. It’s relaxed ambiance makes it a great place to have study sessions with friends.
The Nebraska State Capitol Building, the 2nd tallest state capitol in the U.S., is yet another nice place to visit when the weather is perfect. There’s the option to get a tour of the building, or you can roam around the building yourself. On the 14th floor, which is the highest floor, there’s a wrap-around balcony that overlooks the horizon and downtown Lincoln. The capitol and the balcony are great for photos, so if you and your friends enjoy walking around and photography, the State Capitol is a must-see along with the rest of downtown.
