McDonald’s has been around for over 60 years. People can spot the golden arches from miles away and smell the grease pouring out of the restaurants. People nowadays are all too familiar with the ways of McDonald’s, and this well-known restaurant started to notice. On April 12, 2017, as a way to modernize their brand, McDonald’s announced that they have redesigned their uniforms that will be available to all 14,000 stores sometime in April. McDonald’s made a statement saying, “This major move is another step in the company’s commitment to become America’s best first job and improve the restaurant experience.”
In order to make sure the uniforms were up to their new standards, they brought in celebrity designer, Waraire Boswell, and retail uniform designer, Bindu Rivas. Both being former McDonald’s employees, felt inspired to help build this new brand. Boswell and Rivas’s main goal was to bridge the gap between fashion and function. And since employees are the face of any restaurant, they felt it important to revamp their style. These uniforms are a mix of grays, blacks and blues that combined make a very simplistic, but modern design.
Ever since the news was released about this new change, society has been reacting in several different ways. While many enjoy what has been done with the uniforms, there is quite a large group on the internet who are having some trouble jumping on board. One of the common opinions about the new uniforms is that they appear to carry a lot of resemblance with the villain costumes from Star Wars. While some would think this would make them more interesting to the public, many just think that is is a rip off from the franchise and their brand.
Considering how much time and effort went into designing these new uniforms, it is hard to imagine they will be changing them any time soon. Only time can truly tell how this change will be received, so make sure to keep an eye out for the new uniforms the next time you make a stop at McDonald’s.
